The multiengine instructor rating (MEI) qualifies a pilot to provide flight and ground instruction in a multiengine aircraft. The MEI rating is important because it allows a pilot build multiengine PIC time while instructing, hours which are critical to career advancement. Most Part 135 operators (freight & charter companies) require a minimum of 100 multi hours while regional and national airlines require a minimum of 200 multi hours.
Some schools reserve multiengine instruction for senior instructors while others allow instructors to begin multiengine training soon after completing their MEI rating. School policy generally addresses who can conduct multiengine instruction and when, so you may want to consider this when choosing a school.
Completion Time & Cost The MEI rating takes about a week-and-a-half to complete (15 flight hours) and the minimum total cost at North-Aire is approximately $1,825.00.
Note - Don't forget to account for the 15 hours of PIC time you will need. Add about $1,000 for the PIC time. Requirements Summary: 61.191
