The multiengine rating allows a pilot to fly multiengine aircraft. Most paid flying positions --for the airlines, corporations and charter companies-- involve flying multiengine aircraft. If your goal is to fly for one of these companies you will need a multiengine rating. Once you have obtained the rating you can begin building multiengine time which is essential to landing a flying position.
Completion Time & Cost The multiengine rating takes a minimum of three days to complete (10-12 flight instruction hours) and the average total cost at North-Aire is approximately $2,640.
Requirements Summary: 61.63c
- Hold a valid pilot certificate;
- Present a record endorsed by a flight instructor certifying stating that the applicant has been found competent in the aeronautical knowledge areas appropriate to the rating sought;
- Present a record endorsed by a flight instructor certifying stating that the applicant has been found competent in the areas of operation areas appropriate to the rating sought;
- Pass an oral exam and practical flight test.
