The SEVP-approved school will issue you a Form I-20. After you receive the Form I-20 and register in SEVIS, you may apply at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate for a student (M-1) visa. You must present the Form I-20 to the consular officer when you attend your visa interview.
If your spouse and/or children intend to live with you in the United States while you study, they must also enroll in SEVIS, obtain individual Form I-20s from the SEVP-approved school, and apply for a visa (but they do not pay the SEVIS fee).
Although you are completing an FAA certificate conversion, you will need to complete your instrument rating with an examiner. You will also need to apply for TSA clearance before starting this training. This guide provides great information regarding the process. Here is an overview of the steps involved:
3. TSA will email you with a request to pay an application fee
4. TSA will review your application and send fingerprinting instructions
5. Fingerprinting is done upon arrival Prescott, AZ
6. TSA will review fingerprints and issue a final approval
Be sure to start this process BEFORE arriving in the U.S. Step 1 through 4 can be completed prior to arrival, which will save a lot of time and money. Note that you cannot start flight training until TSA issues a final approval
